Asbestos Awareness (Category A) training helps workers to understand the risks associated with the material so that they can avoid work that may disturb asbestos. This IATP accredited Asbestos Awareness course provides a comprehensive introduction to the dangers of working with asbestos and helps employers to comply with the law by ensuring that their workers are appropriately trained in order to work safely. Note that any workers who plan to carry out work which will knowingly disturb asbestos require a higher level of training, (Category B or C) which is not supplied by this course. Who Should Take This Course?

All workers who are likely to disturb asbestos containing materials during their normal work should be trained so that they can work safely. This Asbestos Awareness (Category A) course is suitable for anyone who may be exposed to asbestos as part of their work so that they understand the dangers and can avoid any work which may disturb asbestos. This includes, but is not limited to, professions such as:
•    Heating and ventilation engineers
•    Demolition workers
•    Carpenters, joiners and construction workers
•    Plumbers
•    Roofing contractors
•    Painters, decorators and plasterers
•    Fire and burglar alarm installers
•    Shop fitters
•    Gas fitters
•    Computer installers and telecommunications engineers
•    General maintenance staff
•    Cable layers and electricians

Do You Comply With Asbestos Regulations?

Under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health 2002 (COSHH) regulations, employers have a legal duty to provide adequate control of employees’ exposure to harmful substances in the workplace.
Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 states that any employee liable to be exposed to asbestos must be given adequate information, instruction and training to ensure they can safeguard themselves and other employees and carry out their work effectively. This level of training is known as Category A Asbestos Awareness training.
Specific responsibilities under The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 include:
•    Preventing exposure to the fibre or, where not possible, make sure it is kept as low as reasonably practicable.
•    Keeping exposure below a certain control limit.
•    Presuming that all materials contain asbestos unless there is evidence to the contrary.
•    Keeping an up to date written record of the location and condition of any asbestos materials or presumed asbestos-containing materials.
•    Ensuring written records are enough to allow another person to identify the materials.
•    Assessing the risk of anyone being exposed to fibres from these materials.
