Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014: Regulation 12 is underpinning the health and social care.
The intention of this regulation is to prevent people from receiving unsafe care and treatment and prevent avoidable harm or risk of harm. Providers must assess the risks to people’s health and safety during any care or treatment and make sure that staff have the qualifications, competence, skills and experience to keep people safe.
Providers must make sure that the premises and any equipment used is safe and where applicable, available in sufficient quantities. Medicines must be supplied in sufficient quantities, managed safely and administered appropriately to make sure people are safe.
Providers must prevent and control the spread of infection. Where the responsibility for care and treatment is shared, care planning must be timely to maintain people’s health, safety and welfare.
This qualification forms part of the QA Health and Safety suite of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:
- National Occupational Standards (NOS) related to health and safety in the workplace
- Recommendations of good practice outlined by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
This qualification is specifically designed for people who work with patients in a health and social care setting and develops their awareness of health and safety issues that may arise in this environment. It covers the importance of good personal hygiene, understanding how risk assessments contribute to health and safety, identifying and controlling hygiene hazards, the legal requirements related to health and safety in the workplace and what to do in response to accidents and incidents at work.
The objective of the qualification is to benefit Learners through developing their health and safety awareness in a health and social care environment to make sure they are keeping themselves, and the people they are caring for, safe.
The purpose of this qualification is to develop Learners’ knowledge of health and safety in a health and social care environment.
This regulated and nationally recognised qualification has been specifically designed to allow Learners to develop their knowledge of health and safety in a health and social care environment.
Intended Audience
The QA Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in Health and Social Care (RQF) is intended for those who work, or plan to work with patients or clients in a health and social care setting, such as: hospitals, care homes and day care centers.
Course Overview
During this comprehensive course, Learners will cover a variety of topics relating to health and safety procedures in a health and social care setting. Topics covered include standards for health and safety welfare in a health and social care environment, risk assessments, importance of personal hygiene and more. The minimum age required for this course is 14 years.

Assessment / Test
1 x 30 Multiple Choice Question Paper (Theory assessment).
On successful completion of the training programme, a “Level 2 Award in principles of Risk Assessment” certificate will be issued to the learner. This qualification is valid for 3 years.
